Embroidery and printmaking

We are in Oaxaca a beautiful city with pastel colored walls.  Many wood cut prints of indigenous peoples in everyday activities adorn the walls of this city.

We stopped at a center for printmaking that is situated in a lovely courtyard with overhead vines.  The exhibit on view was of German printmakers some who are very well known.  Kirchner, Beckman, Kollowitz and some french artists  such as Rouault.  It was a real treat to see these prints.

This is a dry point etching.  I like the composition.  May be by Beckmann.

During our tour of the city we went to the archeological museum that had displayed Tomb 7, an new dig in Monte Alban, a site that corresponds with Teotihuacan.  The tomb held  many beautiful artifacts even though some are very macabre.

One lone cloud. There can be tropical downpours here in the afternoon.
There was an exhibit made by women in the area of embroidery.  These are some of the works.
You can see the relationship between the woodcuts and the embroidery.
This shirt displays the Mayan counting system.
Here again are some of the wood cuts that are displayed on the walls of the city, a real gallery city.
